THE ALEX WILCOX MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
IAlex Wilcox was the heartbeat of every room she entered — a bright light whose joy-first spirit uplifted teammates, friends, and even strangers who crossed her path. A standout softball player for the University of Oregon and Mississippi State University, Alex was not only a fierce competitor on the field but a model of resilience and gratitude off of it. Even in the midst of her battle with ovarian cancer, she chose joy. She chose kindness. She chose to lead with love.
Her courage became a rallying point for the entire softball community. Alex’s strength inspired countless young athletes to keep pursuing their dreams, no matter the adversity they face. Her legacy reminds us that joy isn’t something you find only when life is easy — it’s something you create, something you share, something you fight for.
The Alex Wilcox Scholarship was created to honor that legacy.
Each year, Joy+Us recognizes a student who embodies Alex’s fearless positivity — someone who shows heart, perseverance, compassion for others, and a commitment to finding joy even in life’s toughest chapters. This scholarship supports young people who are working to overcome obstacles, lift up those around them, and carry forward the belief that joy can change lives.
Recipients of the Alex Wilcox Scholarship aren’t chosen solely for their achievements, but for the way they choose to live: with hope, courage, and a determination to bring light to their community.
This scholarship is more than financial support — it’s an invitation into Alex’s story and a promise that her impact continues. With each new recipient, we honor her spirit and share her message:
Spread joy. Be joy. Keep fighting.
Alex Wilcox did — and she still inspires us to do the same.
Meet Alex’s Team
Grace Westmoreland - 2024
Grace Westmoreland is a Yale student-athlete whose resilience, leadership, and record-breaking success on the softball field reflect the essence of Alex Wilcox’s legacy. A four-time All-Region and two-time All-State honoree, she has set multiple school records while inspiring teammates with her positivity and drive. After witnessing her mother’s strength through an eight-year cancer battle, Grace learned to lead with love, gratitude, and perseverance — values she now carries into every game, every classroom, and every community she impacts.
Kensley Allen - 2025
Kensley is a determined and spirited competitor who refused to let a Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis stop her from pursuing her dream of college softball. Even during chemo, she fought to stay on the field and maintain her strength, returning to the game with the same power and passion she’s had since she was three. Now committed to the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain, she continues to inspire others with her courage, joy, and unfaltering belief that no challenge — not even cancer — can stand between her and her future.
